Steve McQueen's 1968 Ford Mustang GT 'Bullitt' - $3.7m

A beat up, dull green 1968 Ford Mustang GT driven by Steve McQueen in the movie "Bullitt" became the most valuable Ford Mustang ever sold at auction. It went for $3.7m in Kissimmee, Florida in 2020. The vendor was Sean Kiernan, whose late father Robert Kiernan purchased the car for $3,500 in 1974. McQueen tried to buy the car several times with no success. The 10 minute 'Bullitt' chase scene is considered the first and still one of the best 'modern' auto chase scenes. It set the standard for Hollywood car chases for generations.

1968 Dodge Hemi Charger R/T - $181k

17,000 Charger R/Ts were produced in 1968, but only 476 of them were armed with the 426 Hemi. 1 of 264 Hemi Charger R/Ts produced in 1968 with TorqueFlite transmission. Original sheet metal. 426/425 HP Hemi V-8 engine. TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission. 3.23 ratio Sure Grip rear end. Matador Red with a White vinyl top and bumblebee stripe. For $3,506, the R/T came with the 375-bhp 440-cid four-barrel Magnum V-8, heavy-duty brakes, R/T handling package, and F70Xl4 tires. Some 476 serious muscle car fans ordered theirs with the monster 426 Hemi, a very serious $605 option. For that money one got an elephant engine severely underrated at 425 bhp.

Producers of the hit film Bullitt knew what they were doing when they cast the redesigned 1968 Dodge Hemi Charger R/T as Steve McQueen's foil. The 1968 Dodge Charger R/T Hemi was a muscle car with star quality. Charger's new hidden-headlamp grille, curvy body, elegant recessed backlight, refined tail, and spare use of chrome is a styling high point for late '60s muscle cars. It isn't cheap to buy a used Hemi Charger of the ’68–70 vintage. Hagerty suggests a #1 concours 1968 Charger R/T with Hemi is trending around $185k. This example crossed the block at Mecum.

2004 Gemballa Mirage GT - $3.9m

The 2004 Gemballa Mirage GT is an exclusive supercar based on the Porsche Carrera GT. In the mid-2000s, an owner supplied a donor Porsche Carrera GT ($330k to $440k) and then paid Gemballa $325k to $426k for the extensive 'Mirage GT' conversion.

1935 Duesenberg Model JN Convertible Coupe by Rollston and Bohman & Schwartz - $9m

Clark Gable, 'The King of Hollywood' ordered one of the four Rollston-bodied convertible coupes built in the so-called JN series, the last two-seater open cars delivered by Duesenberg to customers. The car was partially designed by Gable, and paralleled another event in his life, the courtship of actress Carole Lombard. The Duesenberg became a part of Gable’s life and aura. The couple traveled California coastal roads, including occasional trips to Vancouver. They eventually married in 1939. In 1942 Lombard was killed in a military plane crash in Nevada. By all accounts Gable never wanted to see the car again.

Offered from The Sam and Emily Mann Collection, the icon hammered for $9m against an estimate of $5.5m to $8m USD. Here.

McLaren F1 GTR - $34.7m

One of the featured lots at RM Sotheby’s 2026 Monterey Car Week auction August 15, was this 1996 McLaren F1 GTR, known as the 'Pop Art F1'. One of 9 built, the one-off graphics isn't what makes the estimate $35m. The GTR was the race-ready version of the F1 developed at the behest of customers and in contravention of Murray’s vision of the F1 as a pure road car. Relatively minor changes, including carbon-ceramic brakes, a fixed rear wing, and general light-weighting, were enough to nab the 1995 Le Mans win.

This car was sold to Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, who had it maintained by F1 specialist firm Lanzante. The company’s stewardship includes regular maintenance throughout Mason’s ownership and a full restoration completed in 2009. The car hammered for $34.7 million, setting a record as the most expensive McLaren and British car ever sold at auction.

1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda - $250k high bid

Scored 90.25/100 at the Mopar Nationals. 1st Place E-body National Winner in 1996. Featured in the January 1996 issue of Mopar Muscle. Original owner’s manual. Original warranty card and certificate. Chrysler Registry Report. Drag raced to the 1980s, this 1970 Plymouth Cuda retains its numbers-matching 426 Hemi V8 engine.

For the 1970 model year, Plymouth built 666 Hemi hardtops and 14 convertibles. Among the hardtops, just 368 rolled out with the heavy duty automatic transmission. While the base coupe cost a significant $3,164, adding the 426 Hemi required an extra $871.45. That massive surcharge mandated heavy suspension upgrades and specialized cooling components. Muscle car royalty, the car crosses the block with an estimate of $340k to $360k at Mecum.

1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe - $42.9m

Behold the most expensive American car.

Billed to Shelby American in November 1963, CSX2300 was the third of six Daytona Coupes completed and the only one owned by Carrol Shelby. Prepared in Venice, California, it was shipped to Italy, where Carrozzeria Grandsport in Modena fabricated its lightweight aluminum body. The estimate is $25m at Gooding & Christie’s 22nd annual Pebble Beach Auctions. A sale at this price will set a new marque record and make the Cobra Daytona the most expensive American car. Currently, the most expensive Shelby is the 1962 Shelby 260 Cobra CSX 2000 which sold for $13.7m at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2016.

Carroll Shelby owned CSX2300 from 1975 to 1998. He entrusted Cobra specialist Mike McCluskey of Torrance, California with a comprehensive restoration to return the car to its 1965 specifications. The car underwent another meticulous restoration in 2000. The most expensive American car ever sold at public auction is the 1935 Duesenberg SSJ of Cary Grant, which sold for $22m at Gooding Pebble Beach 2018. This car is expected to surpass that.

2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach - $3.7m high bid

2,484 miles. 1 of 4 examples produced with a Guards Red exterior and the Weissach Package for the North American market. Electric all-wheel drive with e-boost and recuperation. 4.6L/887 HP DOHC V-8 engine with hybrid drive. Flat-plane crankshaft. Titanium connecting rods. Dry-sump lubrication system. Front and rear electric motors with parallel full hybrid assist. Rated at 944 lb-ft of torque. 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transaxle with hydraulic rear differential lock. Guards Red exterior. The track-focused Weissach option cuts about 90 to 100 pounds via magnesium wheels, carbon fiber aero elements, and titanium chassis bolts.

The 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach retailed for around $940k. That was money well invested as the car, depending on mileage, condition, and rare paint options, currently trades between $2.6m to $6m.

1936 Delahaye Type 135 Competition Court Teardrop Coupe - $2.3m high bid

Coachwork by Figoni et Falaschi. Right-hand drive Lightweight “Goutte D'Eau” style coupe with sunroof. The only 1936 Delahaye Type 135 with headlamps integrated in between the front fenders. One of an estimated 30 Competition Court models built from 1935-37. The last of six short-wheelbase coupes built by Figoni et Falaschi in 1936 and one of three surviving examples. The upper echelon of collectible cars, estimate is $2.7m to $3.2m at Mecum.

2026 Koenigsegg Jesko Attack - $5m high bid

177 miles. One-off bespoke build. Twin-turbocharged 5.0L V-8 engine. Capable of 1,600 HP on E85. Light Speed 9-speed automatic transmission. Exposed Dark Purple carbon fiber exterior with Yellow accents. White interior. Carbon ceramic brakes with Yellow calipers. Center-lock light alloy wheels. 1 of 125 Jeskos produced. The original base price for a Koenigsegg Jesko was roughly $3m to $3.5m. Market values and well-optioned builds—including the track-focused Jesko Attack—frequently command between $4m and over $5m. Heavily customized naked carbon fiber variants have reached $6.5m.

This as new example will bring top money at Mecum.

1958 Plymouth Fury - Christine

Star car from the 1983 film "Christine" directed by James Carpenter on a novel by Stephen King. Promotional sweepstakes giveaway car for the movie. Comprehensive restoration. Small block wedge V-8 engine. Offenhauser intake manifold. Dual 4-barrel carburetors. Torqueflite pushbutton automatic transmission. Power steering. Power brakes. Finished in red with white roof. Red vinyl and cloth bench seat interior.

The car appeared at Mecum's Kissimmee 2020 and failed to change hands on a $275k high bid. Estimate was $400k to $500k.

While 24 Plymouth Furys were acquired for production, only two stunt cars in running condition survived after filming was completed. One of the movie cars sold for $198k at Barrett-Jackson’s in January 2015. Hagerty suggests a 1958 Plymouth Fury in #2 (excellent) condition is trending around $47k.

2020 McLaren 720S Spider

The Belize Blue paint job $5,270 is just one of the options. That total is $55,490 to be exact. The 720S Performance specification accounts for $12,130 alone; it adds a host of carbon-fiber parts. Other notable options include an electrochromic roof ($9,100) that tints darker to block out the sun, a $5,490 performance exhaust, and a Bowers & Wilkins 12-speaker audio system ($4,420). Base price was $319,450, this baby $375k.

McLaren packed the 720S with a 4 liter with twin turbochargers pushing 710 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 510 pound-feet of torque through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. 0 to 60 mph comes in 2.8 seconds, with the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds.
