1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 Sc Roadster

The Mercedes-Benz 300 series limousines were a new kind of luxury car when they debuted in 1951. The following year, Mercedes made a coupe based on the 300 that was called the 300s, and this was followed up by an improved version called the 300 Sc. The car was available as a hardtop coupe, cabriolet and roadster. 53 roadsters were built in total.
Each 300 Sc was hand-built to order. The cost was as breathtaking as the car itself. When the car was first announced, the base price was $6,500, approximately twice the cost of a top-of-the line Cadillac. A nice new three-bedroom home in the burgeoning suburbs of America could be purchased for less.
The 300 Sc was fitted with a single-joint swing axle with a low pivot point; with direct injection bringing engine output to 175 hp. The 300 S and the 300 Sc rank among the most exclusive Mercedes-Benz passenger car models in the post-war period.
This example carries an estimate of $800k to $1m.
