1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster

Mercedes-Benz introduced a Roadster version of the 300SL at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show. It effectively replaced the gullwing coupe which was retired that year. At $11,000 it was more expensive than the outgoing coupe. By the end of that year, the final 70 of the 1,400 Coupés and the first 618 of the Roadsters were assembled. The car was far ahead of it's time. Power was 225bhp at 5,800 rpm through a 4-speed manual transmission. The car features 4-wheel independent suspension and 4-wheel drum brakes.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W198) was the first iteration of the SL-Class grand tourer and fastest production car of its day. 1,858 300SL roadsters were produced in total.

The car featured independent rear suspension with coil springs and swing axles.
The 2,996 cc SOHC inline six-cylinder engine had Bosch mechanical fuel injection, four-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension with upper and lower A-arms and coil springs.
This 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster made €952.000 at RM Sotheby's in 2017.

Hagerty suggests a concours example is trending around $1.3m.
