![]() | By 1968 the competition was catching up to Ford and it needed a car that could beat its rivals head to head. Shelby’s 360 hp, 428-ci GT 500 was performing respectably, but then the special Cobra-Jet engine was unveiled. The GT 500 KR – the King of the Road – was born. The Cobra-Jet 428 engine was rated at 335 hp as a ruse to hoodwink the competition and insurance companies. The engine pumped out at very least 400 hp with 440 foot-pounds of twist. |
