![]() | The Charger underwent a redesign for 1968. The base engine for the R/T was the 440ci Magnum V-8 rated at 375 HP, and 17,107 Charger R/Ts left the factory with this motor. 475 buyers were willing to part with $604.75 to get their R/T armed with the 426 Hemi. | ![]() |
![]() | Beneath the hood is a correct 426 Hemi V-8 with the requisite dual Carter 4-barrel carburetors. It was hugely underrated at 425 bhp. Hemi cars got a special high-stall-speed torque converter. The driver could upshift at 6500 rpm, or let the TorqueFlite do it at 5500. 0-60 mph came in 5.3 seconds with a 1/4 mile of 13.8 @ 105mph. The car even has star quality ... it played the villan's car in the Steve McQueen film Bullitt. |
![]() | The car appeared at Mecum and carried an estimate of $145k to $160k. |
