1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird at Mecum - $280k

1 of 135 Hemi Superbirds produced. 426/425 HP Hemi V-8 engine. 727 TorqueFlite transmission. A36 Performance Axle Package. Power steering. Power brakes with front discs. Rallye wheels. Lemon Twist Yellow. Hood pins and simulated fender scoops. Black vinyl top. Bucket seats and center console.
Superbirds were equipped with the top-of-the-line 426 cu in (7.0L) Hemi engine with a pair of four barrel Carter AFB carburetors producing 425 hp. The car could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. It was developed specifically for NASCAR racing. Increasing emissions regulations, insurance spikes for high performance cars and NASCAR's ban on aero cars made 1970 the only production year.
The figure generally accepted for production numbers is 1,935. The cars have steadily risen in price, regularly fetching between $100k to $200k based on condition, engine, gearbox and other factory options. Hemis can sell for $ 300k or more. This example made $280,500 in 2018.
