2005 Porsche Carrera GT - $1.9m

This 2005 Porsche Carrera GT sold for $1,902,000, making it the most expensive car ever sold on Bring a Trailer. The Carrera GT might be considered the last analog supercar. Its 5.7-liter V-10 is naturally aspirated yet features titanium connecting rods, dry-sump lubrication, and an 8400-rpm redline. It's mated to a six-speed manual transaxle with a twin-plate ceramic clutch that drives the rear wheels. There's no stability control, although there is traction control and ABS.

1,270 examples were built during a four-year production run. The car has a central tachometer with an 8,400-rpm redline, a 235-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows under 800 miles. The Carrera GT has a carbon fiber central tub and front structure and carbon fiber bodywork. The control-arm suspension features pushrod-actuated horizontal coil-over shocks, and the brake rotors are carbon-ceramic. Just before the Carrera GT went on sale, Porsche test driver and race car driver Walter Rohrl said it was "the first car in my life that I drive and I feel scared." The Carrera GT went on to develop a reputation as a widowmaker. With no electronic stability control (ESC) there's nothing to save a driver making a mistake.

A series of high profile crashes, including the death of actor Paul Walker, fostered the widowmaker reputation. The Porsche Carrera GT is an uncompromising race car for the road. It is unforgiving of mistakes from drivers.

1979-85 Ferrari 400i

The 400i was the most heinous of the entire horrid 400 series of Ferraris, although the 365 GT4, the 400GT, and the 412 weren't stars either. It was the 400i with a 4.8-liter V12 that was a milestone worth missing in the supercar title. 0-to-60 MPH time was 7.7 seconds on a 3-speed automatic and 6.9 on a 5-speed manual. Armed with a new Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, the V12 engine made 306 hp and gave a top speed of 149 MPH.

With a production run that ran through to 1985 the 400i is the most numerous, with a total of 1306 units before the 400i gave way to the final variant, the 412. 2909 cars left the Ferrari factory between 1973 and 1989. These are the cheapest Ferraris to buy, but don't expect appreciation.

2003 Ferrari Enzo - $3.7m

Sackey & Co. recently set a new world record with the sale of a 2003 Ferrari Enzo. With a final price of $3.7m, it set a record for the highest sale price achieved online. This Enzo is in Grigio Titanio matched with Pelle Rosso interior. It is a specially ordered Ferrari Enzo, in US-spec and has 2,922 miles from new.

Ferrari produced 400 examples of the Enzo. Only 6 carry the nifty livery.

2012 Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package

500 LFAs were produced during the 2-year production run with a base price around $400k. Included in the 500 were 64 ‘Nürburgring Package’ cars, a variant featuring an extra 10bhp, lightweight BBS magnesium wheels, carbon fibre front splitter, stiffer and more adjustable suspension, carbon fibre front canards, and a fixed carbon fibre rear wing. This example has 12,000 miles on the clock.

Power is a screaming 553 bhp with 354 lbs/ft of twist, giving a top speed of 202 mph. This LFA is currently listed for sale on Pistonheads.com in the U.K. with an asking price of £849,950.

1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro - $297k

This 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is a part of the huge and magnificent Rick Treworgy collection. Well over 200 vintage ’50s to early ’70’s muscle cars were part of Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda, Florida. The Treworgy collection represents a serious cut into the roots of American muscle. 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder

The Porsche 918 Spyder succeeded the Carrera GT at the top of the car maker's heap, taking on other hybrid heavyweights of the mid-2010s like the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari. A flat-plane 4.6-liter V8 with a 9,000-rpm redline teams up with dual electric motors to send 887 hp and 994 pound-feet of twist through a PDK dual-clutch seven-speed. Ceramic brakes and active aero like an adjustable rear wing round out its performance components.

This example is No. 465 of 918 produced and cost something around $840k. The car is expected to fetch between $1.2-$1.4m at RM Sotheby’s upcoming Arizona event on January 27th.
