Porsche 550 RS Spyder

The Porsche 550 was a racing/sports car produced by Porsche from 1953-1956. The first three hand built prototypes came in a coupé with a removable hardtop. The first raced as a roadster at the Nurburgring Eifel Race in May 1953 winning its maiden race.
90 mid-engined Porsche 550s were produced, and it quickly established dominance in the 1.1 and 1.5 liter classes.
In its first version it made 108 hp at 6200 rpm and a maximum torque of 89 lb⋅ft at 5000 rpm.The Type 550/550 A is powered by an all aluminium 1,498 cc (1.5 L; 91.4 cu in) naturally aspirated air-cooled 4 cylinder boxer engine known as the "Fuhrmann Engine." It uses double overhead camshafts on each cylinder bank, driven by vertical shafts, actuating 2 valves per cylinder. The engine is equipped with twin 2-barrel Solex PJJ Carburetors and dual ignition with two separate ignition manifolds and two ignition coils.

Perhaps the most famous Porsche 550 was James Dean's "Little Bastard", numbered 130 (VIN 550-0055). This photo was taken hours before Dean was killed in the car.
Of the 90 examples, 43 were built as non-race, customer cars. The first 550 had a fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox. Starting in 1956, a five-speed gearbox was used. The Porsche team raced the 550 with outstanding success. The car was known as the 'Giant Killer' for a reason. It took down the greats like Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar.
The 550 is among the most frequently reproduced classic automobiles.
In 2012 a 1955 Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder sold for $3.685m at Amelia Island setting a new record price. Advertised as "one of the most genuine 550s in existence" at least two bidders agreed. Pre-auction estimate for the 550 Spyder was $2.2-$2.6m.
In Feb 2019 a 1956 Porsche 550 RS Spyder made €3 at RM Sotheby's

Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta

The Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta is a flagship model in Ferrari's early history, known for its racing success and role in establishing the brand as a global racing icon. It's a two-seater sports car that debuted in 1948 and is characterized by its open-top, "barchetta" (small boat) body style. It was typically built by Touring of Milan using their Superleggera method. 32 166 MM examples were built. Touring bodied 25 examples of the 166 in the open style that came to be known as the barchetta. The "MM" in its name refers to the Mille Miglia, a famous Italian road race where the 166 MM achieved notable victories. Two of the early 166 MM barchettas were entered by Ferrari at the 1949 Mille Miglia, and they finished a commanding 1-2.
The Ferrari sports-racer became the early blueprint for Maranello’s successful formula. The iconic 166 MM is the godfather of all the short-block–based competition cars that followed. Very rarely offered for sale, the 27th 166 MM example built appeared at RM Sotheby. As demonstrated by original factory build sheets, the chassis was equipped with Rudge wheel hubs and Houdaille shock absorbers, while the Colombo V-12 was originally fitted with a single Weber 36 DCF/1 carburetor. The icon failed to change hands on an $8m to $10m estimate.

1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Convertible - $759k

Unrestored with 6,465 Miles, 1 of 116 L88 Corvettes produced in 1969. Sold new at Lownsburg Chevrolet in Toledo, Ohio to John Von Sprecken. Driven 6,205 miles within a year and parked for 10 years. Sold to Chip Miller in 1980, odometer statement showing approximately 6,200 actual miles. This C3 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible features the L88 spec that brought the race-bred big-block 427ci (7.0-liter) V8, officially rated at 430 hp. However, the big V8 with aluminum heads pumped out over 550 hp. Optimized for high-RPM operation, the L88 427 breathed cold air through a bulged hood with functional cold-air induction. A 4 speed manual transmission puts the power to the ground. The 427 was the closest thing to a racing engine that could be bought from General Motors.
While listed on Chevrolet dealer order forms, the factory actively discouraged L88 sales to customers who weren't professional racers. The base price for a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 convertible was $4,438. The L88 engine itself added another $437.10. The car was designed for racing and featured a heavy-duty M22 4-speed transmission, positraction rear differential, and a performance suspension. In hommage to its race car heritage, it was all business and skipped creature comforts like air conditioning, a radio, and even power steering. With only 116 built in 1969, it is one of the rarest Corvettes ever made. It is also among the most highly desired.

Low mileage and very original this award winner made $759k at Mecum.
