1966 Shelby 427 Cobra - $ 1.8m

Behold an automotive icon. Enter Ford’s mighty 427 engine: a cast iron, big block monster. The 427 Cobra was born, but not without a substantial amount of engineering work, which included a new chassis with 4-in. tube frame and 7-in. wider body with larger fender flares – needed because of the increased power and weight of the engine.
Termed the 427 Cobra in a staff meeting on 7 April 1965, Shelby’s big-block cars have always been rare, with just over 300 built.
The 427 Cobra was a mighty racing car and virtually unbeatable.
Chassis no. CSX 3359 is the second-to-last 427 Cobra produced and has all of 1,900 original miles on the clock. The Cobra sold in 1978 for $85,000. It had recorded 512 original miles in two decades.

In 2004 the car was fully restored. This incredible Cobra is unquestionably one of the most authentic and original 427s in the world. The car made $ 1.8m.

1978 Ford Mustang II King Cobra

The mid 70s were not good for muscle cars. Among the most hated is the 1978 Ford Mustang II King Cobra. This was a limited edition version with 4,313 units produced. The King Cobra was available only with the V8 to help bolster the car's 'performance image'.

To make up for the 130 odd horsepower of the 302-cu.in., Ford went the “paint and tape-stripe” route. They called it King Cobra and it was a PoS. The Mustang II owes its roots to the Ford Pinto, and it shows.
Ironically, the only thing the Mustang II King Cobra was king of was price. A King Cobra cost about $6,350, an insane sum in 1978. When new, a stock King Cobra wheezed its way to 60 mph in 11.2 seconds. It didn’t fare better in the quarter-mile with an elapsed time of 16.59 seconds at 82 mph.

2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS - $242k

The 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS packs 500 horsepower and 338 lb-ft of torque courtesy of a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six. A seven-speed PDK is the only available transmission. A paddle-neutral feature and a button for limiting pit-lane speed are standard.

Zero-to-60-mph time comes in 3.1 seconds while zero-to-124-mph clocks in at 10.9; the sprint through the quarter-mile is said to consume 11.2 seconds.
The 2016 GT3 RS made hay with a 7-minute, 20-second lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the gold standard of performance hairsplitting. The RS features rear-wheel steering, an infinitely variable locking limited-slip differential (PTV Plus), and Porsche Active Suspension Management.

Pricing for the 2016 GT3 RS started at $176,895.
Porsche assembled a healthy list of options, including a lightweight lithium-ion battery, front-axle lift system, carbon-ceramic brakes, and the Sport Chrono Package. This example had a whooping 540 miles on the clock.
The car made $242k last year.

1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda - $220k high bid

In the muscle car world, the Plymouth Hemi Cuda is the Holy Grail. It was the third generation of the Plymouth Barracuda and offered from 1970 to 1974. The Barracuda was discontinued after the 1974 model year.

The Cuda had the 383ci 335 as the standard engine. It also could be had with the 440ci four-barrel Super Commando, the 440ci six-barrel Super Commando Six Pak, and the top of the line 426ci Hemi.

1969 Chevrolet Yenko Nova - $380k

Dennis Michalo purchased his 1969 Yenko Nova L78 396 new on April 4, 1969. Of 38 cars intended for conversion to L-72 427 iterations, only about half were converted. Produced only in 1969, less than ten are known to exist today.

His forgotten Yenko Nova is a rare machine.

This example was parked in 1978.
Copo deemed the Nova too much of a compact car for the power generated.

Yenko ordered stripped-down SS396 L78 Novas in Lemans Blue, Garnet Red, Rallye Green, and Fathom Green. Yenko then offered the L72 427 short-block replacement.
This Yenko Nova didn’t move again until 2018.
As a collectible, the Yenko Nova is in a league of its own. These cars usually only circulate inside the inner circle of serious collectors. The last time a Yenko Nova changed hands at auction in 2015 it made $380k.

Frame-off restoration. 427/450 HP engine. 4-speed transmission. 4.10 Positraction rear end. Power brakes. Lemans Blue with White Yenko stripes. Black bench seat interior. AM radio. Body-colored steel wheels. Dog dish hubcaps.
