1963 Ferrari 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso by Scaglietti - $1.6m

Introduced at the 1962 Paris Salon as a replacement for the 250 GT, the Lusso (Italian for luxury) featured the type 168 U engine, the short block Colombo V-12. Chassis improvements including four-wheel disc brakes, a suspension with coil-over shock absorbers at the corners, and a rear Watts linkage.

Chassis no. 5183 GT is the 152nd of 351 built and was dispatched to Scaglietti for coachwork in September 1963. Restored to a high standard, 5183 GT is a superlative example of one of Maranello’s most acclaimed cars.
The Colombo V12 engine displaced 2,953.21 cc (3.0 L; 180.2 cu in) developing 240 hp at 7,500 rpm and 178 lb⋅ft torque at 5,500 rpm. It was able attain a maximum speed of 240 km/h (150 mph), becoming the fastest passenger car of it's day.
Originally sold for $13,375, the 250 GT Lusso was replaced by the Ferrari 275 GTB. The car sold at top estimate of $1.6m.
